Marginal Structural Model (MSM)

A model for estimation of the causal effect of a time dependent exposure in the presence of time dependent covariates that may simultaneously be confounders and intermediate variables. Inverse probability of treatment weighting esti mators (extensions of the Horvitz Thompson estimator) are used to estimate causal effects based on the concept of potential outcomes (see Neyman Rubin causal framework). A simpler but more limited approach than using a structural nested model.
